Because it's fun

I knuckled down and lopped off the head of my Jet Run this morning. With the help of Laura Skillern's blog posts on sculpting necks, and a bit of improvisation, I'm feeling pretty optimistic about this project.

The real Ruff

This idea has been floating round in my mind for
quite awhile now, and I can't believe I have only just got started on
t! With everything Amanda has done for me, what better way to say
thanks! I can't wait to give it to her, even though that won't be for
awhile yet.
This is what he looks like so far. The neck has kinda flopped a bit but
I'll fix that when I get to sculpting it.
My PS Pebbles WB is effectively finished too, just need to do a run
over and see if I have missed anything, I'll post pics before the
weekend hopefully.

Slow Progress

Sorry I haven't posted for a little while now, looking at the last post
about him now, quite alot has happened. He has gone a bit darker than
he is in those pics. I don't have any more recent pics than those in
other post of his whole body.
Now he
is nearing completion, he has his mane and tail blocked in waiting for
some more detail, his markings are on (however I have just noticed his
star is wanting another coat) and his hooves are blocked in ready for
some more detail also. His eyes are done and I couldn't help myself and
they are now glossed but will have to be redone I would say because the
sealer will matte them out again when I do his mane.
So that said, here's a sneak peek at what he looks like now, he has a
couple flaws in his paintwork from being a bit of a daredevil and I
patched them up as well as I could, the main one is on his cheek bone,
but I planned on him being a performance horse anyway so the bridle
should hopefully cover it, and you won't see it in photo's I wouldn't
think.
I don't really have time to even be posting but I thought I really
should, just to let everyone know what happening, and sorry to everyone
who leaves comments, I love them but as much as I'd love to comment
back my stupid computer won't let me, so I'm thinking I might need a
layout something that of the BCS blog, that seems to be the only blog I can comment on now.

Co-operation

It helps when painting a horse, that the horse has no complaints about
the colour intended. I have been working on and off on this PS Pebbles
WB for a couple weeks now, and even though we haven't had anywhere near
as many arguements as the last horse I painted,
there has been some uncertainty as to what colour he actually wants to
be! First it was dun, after he got some darker splotches on him I
decided he needed to be a bit darker, so I though bay, like Momentum, but alas, he doesn't want to be that dark and looked to me more flaxen liver chestnut.

This was him at about 9.30 this morning. I have put another couple of layers on him since, but he isn't much darker.
As he is now, he is very close to just needing the details done and then he will be done.

As Promised

The 'back to models' post this blog so desperately needed!! I don't
remember what my last modelly post was, let alone when, wouldn't
surprise me if it' wasn't all that long ago!
This post, my WIP projects, most likely for the next 6 months!!!
First up, a Schleich Haflinger mare, slightly modified leg arrangement,
to a silver dapple - Dusty! A portrait of Magic's mumma.
Then,
G1 Drafter, curretnly being prepped to be sent away (maybe) to look
something like the pretty boy on the right, I'm seriously thinking
about hairing him as well, any suggestions on what type of mohair to
use?

MW (quarter horse?) of some sort, thinking of making him a base, will be painted chestnut, Reference horse - RR Frenchmans Bully, who popped up when I was looking for a nice ref. colour.

Another being prepped to be sent away, G2 Standardbred to be painted as a portrait of pacer Cardigan Bay.

And
last but not least, G3 Pony, perhaps with some modifications (new
mane/tail, no feathers) to a silver bay pinto, Raid. This wee stallion
is so sweet! He belongs to a friend of ours.

Done and dusted

well, after sitting around unfinished for well over a month he probably
almost did need a dusting!! And I have a strange little feeling this
guy is the first CM of mine I have shared as I have finished it...oops!
And pretty bad pics today, lets just say at 6pm with the stupid weather
trying to rain, the lighting isn't the best! So I had to use the flash,
so better pics tomorrow, maybe..I have my first exam tomorrow, maths,
oh joy!

Wordless Wednesday

On a friday...yup! I really don't have much to talk about today. We
have finished school for the year (well, the little ones are still
going, right up until almost christmas), they call it 'Study Leave' but
finishing on Wednesday with my first exam on Monday, it's not much of a
study leave really.
But the days are warming up, today is pretty hot, which also means I
get to ride alot more!!! And maybe finally convince mum to get me that
horse! Still need to figure out how I am going to ask the neighbour if
I can use the paddock behind my house...
In modelly news, I have this wee guy I have been working on on and off
for awhile now...he's getting closer to what I want. I think I will
just put another layer or so on the other side(which seems to have
fallen behind somehow!) and then darken up his legs, then he'll just
need all his acrylic details.
